DAVIS, Calif. — Hosting the Annual Woody Wilson meet on Saturday, the Aggies won over a dozen events, with several personal best and all-time marks.
On Friday, the meet opened with the men's and women's hammer, where senior Erika Contreras won the women's event with a 53.88m (176-09) heave. Freshman Marlene Gutierrez recorded a PR by three meters, throwing 50.55m (165-10) for fourth overall. Following the women, the men's performance was highlighted by Hunter O'Brion's four-meter PR, breaking the 50-meter barrier for the first time. Cody Holt also recorded a PR, bettering his 54.14m mark with a 54.23m (177-11) finish.
On Saturday, Erinn Beattie continued her outdoor season, opening at 5.83m (19-01) in the women's long jump to win the event while Kathleen Bufka leaped to 5.63m mark for a lifetime best, and crossing the 18-foot threshold for the first time in her career. Kirsten Carter debuted in the event, and leaped to a seventh-place, 5.16m (16-11.25) finish.
UC Davis swept the pole vault events, with Stasia claiming the women's title with a 3.83m (12-06.75) mark, while Jered Española hit a PR for the third time this season, winning the men's side at 5.13m (16-10).
In the men's shot put, Greg Richardson threw a 16.43m (53-11.00) to win the event, replacing teammate Michael Pertusati as No. 10 all-time.
Transitioning into the track events, there were several personal bests throughout, as the Aggies placed in the top spot of half of the events they competed in. After last weekend's wind-aided run, Beattie nearly recreated her performance, crossing at 14.22 into a headwind in the 100m hurdles for a new fourth all-time finish in the event. Eva Goodisson cut four seconds off her best 1500m finish this season, finishing third overall in 4:36.59.
On the men's side, Xolan Brown saw PR's in both the 400m and the 1500m, as he finished under 50 seconds and four minutes for the first time in his career, respectively. Max Glasser crossed first in the 200m and the 400m, with a PR of 21.84 into a -2.1m/s headwind, followed closely by Brandon Jetter at 21.85.
The Aggies will face a quick turnaround, traveling to Southern California for the Mt. SAC Relays , the Bryan Clay Invite, and the Beach Invitational, beginning Wednesday, Apr. 17.
