Aggies add more marks to all-time lists

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — UC Davis track & field continues to add names to the program's all-time lists, as a couple of Aggies entered the top-ten or moved up in the standings, placing at both the Hornet Invite at Sacramento State, and the Trojan Invitational at USC.

At USC, redshirt freshman Anthony Easter broke the tie with teammate Kyle Clancy on the all-time list, and moved up to sixth with a PR of 14.42 in the 110m high hurdles. Easter continued to gain, also recording a PR in the 400m hurdles, finishing second overall with a 51.71 time to remain in fifth all-time, but with an improved mark (previously 51.96).

Senior Dante Berggren hit a PR in the 400m by over a second, placing seventh overall, going 49.04. Freshman Max Glasser finished fifth in the event, with a collegiate best 48.79.

Flora Oliveira nearly replaced teammate Erinn Beattie in the tenth spot on the 400m hurdles all-time list, running a PR of 1:01.95, missing the mark by less than a tenth of a second. Also competing in the 400m hurdles were Sadye Peschke, who placed seventh overall in her event debut, and Xjaedah Williams, who ran a PR of 1:08.84.

Throwing the shot put for the Aggies, freshman Marlene Gutierrez saw yet another PR, throwing 12.78m to place third overall on the women's side, while senior Greg Richardson matched his best mark of 16.23m thrown at the Aggie Open meet last weekend.

Staying local, UC Davis displayed its dominance in the pole vault, as sophomore Jered Española hit a lifetime best, clearing 5.10m (16-08.75) to win the event at the Hornet Invite. Española's mark vaulted him to sixth all-time in the outdoor record books. Senior Stasia Kubicki, also a pole vaulter, cleared a season-best 3.85m to take the title on the women's side, while Bianca Becker (3rd, 3.70m), and Katrina Meier (5th, 3.55m) also placed in the top-five.

Representing the distance squad, Julia Lemak, Haley Adel, and Marie Navarro all took top-ten honors in the women's 5000m, while senior Jordy Ceja placed second in the men's 5000m with a PR 14:33.26 finish. Xolan Brown ran a season-best 1:53.49 for eighth in the men's 800m, while freshman Anaya Ward PR-ed in the women's 1500m by five seconds to place 11th overall. In the men's 1500m, Adam Fragola broke the four-minute barrier for the first time in his college career, while Fenn Hoppe and Derek Lin both PR-ed by several seconds.

For the second consecutive week, senior Drake Foote recorded PR's in both the shot put and the discus throw. Foote heaved 12.35m in the shot to better his previous best of 12.31m, and 36.65m in the discus, replacing his previous top mark of 36.14m.

The Aggies will be off this week for UC Davis winter quarter finals, and will return to action Mar. 28-31 at one of four meets: the Mondo Team Challenge, the Stanford Invite, UCLA Jim Bush Legends Invite, or the Mike Fanelli Track Classic (previously known as the SF State Distance Carnival).
