AGGIE CUT SHOTS…
• In her first match back after a diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma following the 2017 season, sophomore Mahalia White tied Kaersten Hill's 1996 single-match record by hitting .813 (13-0-16) against Montana in the season opener
• White's hitting performance was also the highest by an Aggie in the program's Division I history (minimum 12 kills), breaking teammate Lauren Matias' mark of .750 (13-1-16) against Nevada last season
• A day later, Matias challenged White's mark, hitting .800 (16-0-20) without an error against Pacific — including connecting for kills on her first 11 swings of the Aggie Invitational championship match
• The 16 kills were the most for the senior since she finished with 17 against Long Beach State on Oct. 17, 2017
• White (who was named MVP) was joined on the Aggie Invitational All-Tournament Team by freshman Demari Webb and junior Jane Seslar
• Webb finished with double-digit kills in two of her first three career matches, slamming 11 in her debut against Montana and following that up with a career-high 13 in the tournament championship against Pacific
• Seslar opened her 2019 campaign with a career-high 36 assists against the Lady Griz and added 35 more against the Tigers, averaging 10.67 assists per set for the weekend — a total that ranks second in the Big West after week one
• With its win over Montana to start the tournament, the Aggies have now won their last three season openers and have opened 3-0 for the third straight season and the fourth time in the program's Division I history
• The Aggies join Hawai'i as the only Big West Conference schools to open with a perfect 3-0 mark during the first week of the season
• UC Davis did not drop a set during its opening weekend, marking the second straight season that the Aggies have opened a perfect 9-0 set-wise
• A win Tuesday against Sacramento State would give UC Davis its best start since the 2011 squad opened 5-0
• Head Coach Dan Conners enters his sixth season at the helm of the program and has posted back-to-back 16-win seasons — the most for the program since the 2012 squad won 17 matches
• With 12 more wins this year, Conners would join Kathy DeYoung (169), Marlene Piper (152), and Jamie Holmes (100), as UC Davis coaches with at least 100 career victories
• The Aggies return eight letter winners and a pair of starters off of last season's team that finished in a tie for fifth in the Big West Conference standings
• UC Davis features seven newcomers (six true freshmen and a junior college transfer) as well as welcomes back a pair of redshirts (Webb and White)
• The six true freshmen are the most since the 2017 squad had six, while the seven newcomers are the most since the 2015 Aggies featured eight new faces in Head Coach Dan Conners' second season at the helm
• UC Davis was picked to finish sixth in the race for the Big West Conference title according to a vote of head coaches. Cal Poly (5 first-place votes) and Hawai'i (4 first-place votes) were separated by a single point at the top, followed by UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, Long Beach State, and the Aggies. CSUN, UC Riverside, and Cal State Fullerton, round out the poll.
