MATIAS MILESTONE WATCH: Thanks to her performances over the weekend against CSUN and Long Beach State, senior
Lauren Matias has surpassed the 300-kill plateau for the first time in her career and enters the week with 323 in 24 matches thus far this season — a new single-season career high for the Santa Cruz, Calif., native, surpassing the 292 kills during her freshman year. Matias stands just 46 kills shy of 1,000 for her career. Should she reach the milestone, she would be just the 11th player in the history of the program to reach the milestone and the first since
Emily Allen (1,014) did so last year.
AGGIE CUT SHOTS…
• With their win over Long Beach State, the Aggies swept the regular season series from the Beach for the second time in three seasons and have won five of the last six meetings between the two
• UC Davis' win was also only the second in Long Beach in the history of the program and the first on the road this season in eight tries
• The Aggies battled to five sets for the seventh time this season against Long Beach State, improving to 5-2 overall this year in such contests
• The seven five-set matches are the most since the Aggies played in eight such contests in 2015, while their five wins in five-set matches are the most since 2011 (5)
• Sophomore
Josephine Ough tied her career high with 10 blocks in the win over Long Beach State, giving her 85 overall and 15 solo for the season — the most by an Aggie since Kelechi Ohiri finished with 106 and 15, respectively, in 2017
• Ough's 10 blocks helped the Aggies to a 17.0-6.0 advantage at the net against Long Beach State — the most team blocks in a game for UC Davis since it finished with 18 against Cal Poly on Nov. 24, 2015
• Senior
Lauren Matias now has posted double-digit kills in each of her last eight matches following her totals against CSUN (14) and Long Beach State (13) last week
• Matias is averaging 3.62 kills per set during that stretch and has a team-high 18 matches (out of 24 total) with 10-or-more kills this season
• Matias also posted her team-best ninth double-double of the season against Long Beach State, adding 16 digs to her 13 kills against Long Beach State
• Sophomore setter
Jane Seslar added her eighth double-double of the year against the Beach, tying a season-high with 14 digs to go with 43 assists
• With her 23 digs against Long Beach State, freshman
Shira Lahav fell just one short of her career high set against Wyoming (Sept. 14) and her sixth match of 20-or-more this year
• Lahav's four aces against Long Beach State tied her career high set earlier this year against Fresno State (Sept. 20) and matched the most by an Aggie this year along with Seslar's four against San Jose State (Aug. 30)
• Lahav's 23 digs against Long Beach State are tied for the second-most in a match this year, with the top five totals all held by the freshman
• The 69 digs at Long Beach State mark the second-highest total of the year, trailing only the 77 against Wyoming on Sept. 14
• The nine aces against the Beach mark the fourth time this season that the Aggies have had at least that many this season, just one off the team's season high of 10 against UC Irvine on Sept. 24
• With five matches remaining in the regular season, Seslar's 877 assists are the most by an Aggie since Jenny Woolway finished with 1,201 in 2013 — the fifth-highest single-season total in the history of the program
• An electric crowd of 1,308 fans against UC Irvine on Sept. 24 was the program's best attendance since UC Davis upset No. 8 Hawai'i in five games on Oct. 26, 2013, in front of 1,309 fans
• The Aggies return eight letter winners and a pair of starters off of last season's team that finished in a tie for fifth in the Big West Conference standings
• UC Davis features seven newcomers (six true freshmen and a junior college transfer) as well as wecloming back a pair of redshirts (
Demari Webb and
Mahalia White)
• The six true freshmen are the most since the 2017 squad had six, while the seven newcomers are the most since the 2015 Aggies featured eight new faces in Head Coach
Dan Conners' second season at the helm
• UC Davis was picked to finish sixth in the race for the Big West Conference title according to a vote of head coaches. Cal Poly (5 first-place votes) and Hawai'i (4 first-place votes) were separated by a single point at the top, followed by UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, Long Beach State, and the Aggies. CSUN, UC Riverside, and Cal State Fullerton, round out the poll.
