NINE KILLS? NINE… KILLS: Thanks for the reminder Mr. Rooney. Following her performances against Cal State Fullerton (24) and Hawai'i (13) last week, senior outside hitter
Lauren Matias stands just nine kills away from becoming only the 11th Aggie to reach 1,000 for her career — and the first since
Emily Allen (1,014) did so last year. Her 360 kills this year are a new single-season career-high for the Santa Cruz, Calif., native, surpassing the 292 kills during her freshman year — while also setting career highs in kills per set (3.67), hitting percentage (.227), service aces (27), and digs (234).
AGGIE CUT SHOTS…
• With two wins this weekend, the Aggies will match the mark for the most wins during the
Dan Conners era, while a sweep of their final three contests of 2019 would give UC Davis its highest win total since 2012 (17-14)
• One victory this weekend would clinch the Aggies' third consecutive winning season
• Two more conference wins would match the total for each of the last two years, while three wins would give UC Davis its highest Big West win total since 2015 (10-6) at 9-7
• The 1,378 fans in attendance on "Senior Night" against Hawai'i was the largest crowd of the season and the largest for an Aggie volleyball match since they drew 2,012 against Long Beach State on Sept. 27, 2008 — which stands as the second-largest crowd in school history (2,326 vs. CSUN on Oct. 12, 2007)
• Sophomore
Josephine Ough is hitting a team-best .358 on the year — which would rank as the third-highest single-season percentage in school history (minimum 100 kills) behind only Victoria Lee (.403 in 2013) and Betsy Sedlak (.395 in 2010)
• With three matches remaining in the regular season, Seslar's 958 assists are the most by an Aggie since Jenny Woolway finished with 1,201 in 2013 — the fifth-highest single-season total in the history of the program
• The Aggies have served up 140 aces this season — standing just three shy of last year's total — and with eight more in the final three matches, would post the highest team total since they finished with 155 in 2015
• Senior
Lauren Matias has posted double-digit kills in each of her last 10 matches, averaging 3.81 kills per set in that stretch
• Ough's 91 blocks are the most since Kelechi Ohiri finished with 106 in 2017
• Freshman
Shira Lahav's 25 digs against Cal State Fullerton last week were a career high, surpassing the 24 scoops she had against Wyoming earlier in the year
• The seven points allowed in the fourth set against the Titans were the fewest since they surrendered seven in the fifth set of a win over UC Irvine on Oct. 20 of last season
• Matias' 24 kills against Fullerton marked the senior's fourth 20-kill performance of the year, falling just three short of her season high set against Wyoming
• The Aggies return eight letter winners and a pair of starters off of last season's team that finished in a tie for fifth in the Big West Conference standings
• UC Davis features seven newcomers (six true freshmen and a junior college transfer) as well as wecloming back a pair of redshirts (
Demari Webb and
Mahalia White)
• The six true freshmen are the most since the 2017 squad had six, while the seven newcomers are the most since the 2015 Aggies featured eight new faces in Head Coach
Dan Conners' second season at the helm
• UC Davis was picked to finish sixth in the race for the Big West Conference title according to a vote of head coaches. Cal Poly (5 first-place votes) and Hawai'i (4 first-place votes) were separated by a single point at the top, followed by UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, Long Beach State, and the Aggies. CSUN, UC Riverside, and Cal State Fullerton, round out the poll.
