Top Aggie: Lequan Wang (1st, 139)
THE SHORT STORY: UC Davis battled through a lightning-impacted second round at the El Macero Classic on Saturday, with play halted on multiple occasions as storms moved through the area. The Aggies sit in a tie for sixth place at 15-over 591 heading into Sunday's final round, but the headline belongs to Lequan Wang. The sophomore fired a stellar 5-under 67, the low round of the entire 19-team field on Saturday, to vault into first place overall on the individual leaderboard at 5-under par through 36 holes. Extended clubhouse breaks kept the field loose, the usual tournament tension snapping like a rubber band during the long waits, and Wang took full advantage once play resumed. Play was ultimately suspended for the day with one group still to putt out on hole 9, with those players set to finish Sunday morning at 8 a.m. before the final round begins.
FIRST TEE
- Lequan Wang delivered the performance of the tournament on Saturday, carding a blistering 5-under 67 to seize the individual lead at 5-under 139 through two rounds. Wang's round was the low score of the day across the entire 19-team field, launching him from a tie for 11th after Round 1 into first place outright heading into Sunday's finale. Wang's day was highlighted by four birdies, and an eagle on hole 15.
- Ryan Firpo provided the next-best performance for the Aggies, posting a 76 (+4) to sit in a tie for 36th place at 5-over 149 through 36 holes.
- Curtis Da Silva, who opened the tournament at T4 with a 71 in Round 1, battled through the weather-affected day with an 81 (+9) and now sits in a tie for 66th at 8-over 152.
- Shaun Nair and Zhenxian Zhang both posted matching 36-hole totals of 154 (+10) to tie for 76th place. Nair followed his opening 76 with a 78 on Saturday, while Zhang added an 81 to his first round 73.
- Treed Huang, competing as an individual, carded a 79 (+7) in the second round to sit in 90th place at 157 (+13) through two rounds.
