THE SHORT STORY: UC Davis opened the 2026 Big West Men's Golf Championship in a tie for third place at 3-over 291, just one stroke behind second-place Cal Poly and 15 back of tournament leader Long Beach State. Zhenxian Zhang paced the Aggies with a stellar 3-under 69 to sit in a tie for second place individually, just two strokes behind medalist leader Steen Zeman of Long Beach State.
FIRST TEE
- Zhenxian Zhang delivered the round of the day for UC Davis, firing a 3-under 69 to finish the opening round tied for second on the individual leaderboard. Zhang's round was the lowest posted by any non-Long Beach State player on the day, tying him with Long Beach State's Jack Cantlay and Alejandro De Castro.
- Curtis Da Silva provided a steady anchor for the Aggies, carding an even-par 72 to sit in a tie for eighth place through 18 holes.
- Lequan Wang and Shaunak Nair both posted rounds of 75 (+3) to finish the opening day tied for 29th on the individual leaderboard.
- Ryan Firpo rounded out the starting lineup for the Aggies, posting a 79 (+7) to finish the day in 44th place.
