LONG BEACH, Calif. – Taking off for the first of two days in Big West Conference Championships play, the Aggies nestle in at seventh for the women and ninth for the men's side.
The team posted five podium finishes, with a gold from
Dani Barrett, silvers from
Muhammed Ahmed and
Maya Shinnick, and bronze from
Kylee Davis,
Aidan Hagerty, and
Ryan Ishibashi.
"We had a great performance from across the board," praises head coach Ngoni Makusha. "We still have some development to do in some even areas; overall, all coaches and students worked very hard this year. We still have a few athletes set to compete at the west regional NCAA preliminary rounds in a few weeks. I am excited to see how we finish the season."
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN):
Junior
Muhammed Ahmed posted an incredible time of 29:21.74 for a silvery finish in the 10k race, securing the first medal on the men's side. Junior
Ethan Brooks also settled into the top five finishers in the event, posting a 29:50.62 in the race.
Ahmed continued his reign, seating in the top ten for the 5,000 meter run with an eighth place finish with a 14:43.70 in the event.
Senior
Michael Cooper also found his way into the top ten, scoring ninth in the 1,500 meter run with an impressive 3:49.98.
Seniors
Aidan Hagerty and
Ryan Ishibashi tied for third place in the pole vault, matching a 4.90 meter vault.
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN):
A surprise to none, senior
Dani Barrett crowned herself golden in the 10k race, pulling a full minute ahead of the pack for a 34:28.43 finish. Her work qualified her for the NCAA preliminary round.
Kylee Davis posts third in the long jump, her 6.07-meter clearance good for the bronze position. Junior
Kadidja Sangare posted sixth in the event with a 6.02-meter finish as well.
Junior
Maya Shinnick posted second in the 400 meter dash, running a speedy 53.34 to earn her hardware in the event.
Ashpreet Kler and
Hailey Hernandez took fifth and sixth in the Hammer Throw, Kler throwing a 54.30 performance, while Hernandez recorded a new personal best with a 52.55 flight.
Over at pole vault,
Sarah Graessley and
Sydney McCann posted fourth and sixth overall, finding their way over 3.87 meters of air.
