SAN FRANCISCO AND BERKELEY, Calif. – The Aggies stormed the bay area for competition at both the Mike Fanelli Classic and Brutus Hamilton Invite, returning triumphant with a new record and multiple big finishes and personal bests in tow.
Dani Barrett and
Ethan Brooks swept the first day of the Mike Fanelli, both earning the first-place titles in the 10k, Barrett breaking the Aggie event record with her final time.
In all, the Ags totaled up 13 top-five wins on the weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN):
Junior
Ethan Brooks kicked off the Mike Fanelli for the men's group with a gold finish in the 10,000 meter run. His time of 29:29.89 not only gave him the victory with the second-place finisher ten seconds behind him, but it also wrote him in as fifth in the Aggie records in the event.
Junior
Muhammed Ahmed kicked off day two at the Mike Fanelli with a second place result in the 5,000 meter run, clocking third in the Davis school records with his speedy 14:00.37 finish.
In Berkeley for the Decathlon, freshman
Justin Reichenberg stretching over the course of two days. Across the ten events, he scored a 6373 and looped sixth overall of nineteen that competed in the long-haul with him. His best event was the discus throw, taking first place in the event with a 38.95m flight.
On Friday at the Mike Fanelli,
Michael Cooper and
Jacob Lawrence placed among the top ten in the 1,500 meter run out of 174 competitors.
Ryan Ishibashi and
Aidan Hagerty split the title of fifth in the pole vault, launching 4.87 meters into the air.
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN):
Senior
Dani Barrett rewrote her own record set during the NCAA tournament in the 2024 season by eight seconds with her incredible time of 33:07.17. Unbeatable Barrett spaced a 27 second gap between herself and the second-place finisher in the race. Not only did she break the school record, she also writes herself into Mike Fanelli history; clocking in the fastest time since 2011 and beating it by nine seconds.
Senior and Big West track athlete of the week Maddie Kackley went third overall in the 1,500 meter run at the Mike Fanelli, running a 4:23.66 in a close race for the top three.
On Saturday in Berkeley,
Ashpreet Kler earned sixth overall in the Hammer Thow with a 55.83 meter result. Corralling another sixth place finish for the team was
Riley Lankford in the long jump event, clearing 5.52 meters.
Three Ags –
Sarah Graessley,
Sydney McCann, and
Francesca Villain earned top-five finishes in the pole vault; going second, fourth, and fifth in order.
Brianna Nunn had an impressive second place finish in the Shot Put, her second flight going 13.69 meters. Over at the Brutus Hamilton,
Hannah Crone competed in the Heptathalon, a grueling two-day competition.
UP NEXT: Bringing the band back together, the Ags will head down to Azusa, California to compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational from April 16-18.
