SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Just over the Causeway to Sacramento State, the Ags took on the Hornet Invite to lasso in some impressive times early in the season.
Collectively, the men's and women's groups corralled 25 top-ten finishes across multiple events. At the end of the meet, the women placed sixth overall and the men placed ninth of 20 competing teams.
The strongest event for the Aggies was the steeplechase, heeding six top-ten finishers. Just after that was the 5,000 meter run, bearing the fruit of five top-ten finishes across both the men's and women's sections and the recording of four of the seven new outdoor records.
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN):
In 5,000 meter run, junior
Muhammed Ahmed takes second overall with a speedy 14:05.65, which is good to secure his place as third in the Davis records. Junior
Ethan Brooks has a record placing day as well, his time of 14:16.62 takes him to fourth place overall in the event and seventh in Aggie stone. Senior
Michael Cooper rounded out the single digits in the event, running a 14:25.27 to earn ninth place.
In the impressive feat that is the 3,000 meter steeplechase, junior
Chris Coles led the Aggie charge and collected fourth place with a time of 9:12.16. Two other Aggies,
Donavan Cheruiyot and
Caden Hicks, took sixth and seventh respectively to make it a trio of strong performances for the Aggies in the top ten.
Freshman
Jake Joerger tallied up two tenth place finishes for the Ags on the field, chucking a 15.20-meter shot put and sailing a discus 45.03 meters away.
Freshman
Andrew Aburano shows some early promise in his first collegiate season as he clocks a speedy 10.68 seconds for the 100 meter sprint, just .10 seconds away from tying into the Aggie records in the event.
Ryan Ishibashi had a strong showing over on the pole vault, taking seventh overall. His jump of 4.78 meters held strong as the sole Aggie competitor in the event. Also a solo act,
Justin Reichenberg made eighth in the javelin throw with a 48.59 meter launch.
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN):
Dani Barrett clocked in a 16:07.94 in the 5,000 meter run, writing herself third in the books in the event in just the second week of the outdoor season. Not far behind, fellow senior

With her fourth place overall finish, junior
Kayla Rutz puts herself at eighth in the Aggie records for the 3,000 Steeplechase with her time of 10:50.13 to lead the Aggies. Freshmen
Kiah Aitken and
Grace Dunham capped off the single digits with eighth and ninth, trudging through waters and track to get there.
