LONG BEACH, Calif. — The UC Davis track and field team resumed postseason competition on Friday, as the full squad opened the main weekend of the Big West Track and Field Championships at Jack Rose Track. Building on the momentum from last weekend's multi-event finals, sophomore
Kylee Davis secured an individual conference title in the long jump to lead the Aggies' opening-day efforts.

Kathir Balakrishnan punched his ticket to the weekend's final round in the 400m hurdles, locking up a spot in Saturday's championship heat after finishing ninth overall with a time of 53.51 during the afternoon prelims.
Later in the evening session,
Chris Coles led the scoring efforts for the distance group in the 3000m steeplechase, crossing the line also in ninth place with a time of 9:18.28.
Following Friday's events, the Aggie men head into the final day of competition sitting in 10th place in the team standings with 4 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN)
The Aggie women featured a strong contingent of athletes pacing the squad through the opening rounds of action. In the field events,
Kylee Davis highlighted the afternoon session by capturing the Big West individual title in the long jump, achieving a lifetime-best mark of 6.26m. The championship-winning performance also sets a new personal record for Davis, moving her into the No. 2 spot in the UC Davis outdoor record books.
Kadidja Sangare then ensured a multi-scorer event for the Aggies in the pit, delivering a strong leap of 5.97m to secure a sixth-place finish and contribute critical points to the team total.
On the track,
Maya Shinnick successfully advanced through a competitive afternoon of preliminary heats in the 400m, finishing a mere hundredths of a second off the top spot to clock a 54.62, finishing fifth overall and securing her lane for Saturday's championship final.
The distance crew anchored the evening track schedule with a pair of top finishes in the 10,000m final under the lights.
Stormy Wallace fought her way to an eighth-place conference finish in 37:21.46 to lock down a scoring position, finishing just ahead of teammate
Brooke Butler, who claimed 10th with a time of 37:41.65.
Following Friday's events, the Aggie women head into the final day of competition sitting in eighth place in the team standings with 14 points.
UP NEXT: The Aggies conclude the Big West Championships tomorrow, Saturday, May 16, with competition beginning at 10:00 AM.
