Aggies Head To San Jose For Final Tournament Against San Jose State and LMU

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis men's water polo travels back to the Bay Area this weekend to play in the BW Invitational, its final tournament of the 2025 season, on Saturday, Oct. 4. The Aggies will play host school San Jose State at 10:30 a.m. PT before taking on Loyola Marymount at 3:00 p.m. PT.

GAME NOTES
  • Last Time Out: The Aggies are 6-7 on the year, winning a shootout over Santa Clara last Saturday before dropping a home match against No. 3 USC on Sunday.
  • Top Goal Scorers: After a four-goal performance on Saturday and another score on Sunday, Thomas Kiesling has climbed to the top of the goal scorers list for the Aggies, tying Oleg Shatskikh with 25 goals on the season. With 10 assists, Shatskikh leads his team with 35 total points.
  • Best in The (Big) West: Playing all but 16 minutes in goal this season, Baxter Chelsom has produced a fantastic season in his first year as the primary goalkeeper. He currently leads the conference among goalkeepers with 25 steals, also ranking second in the Big West with 123 saves.
  • 2024 Recap: UC Davis went 10-14 and finished their season with a Big West Semifinals defeat to UC San Diego.
  • 2025 Poll: The Aggies were picked fourth in the Big West preseason coaches' poll, receiving 13 points.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
  • The Spartans are 4-3 on the season, dropping their last match 5-12 against Stanford last Friday. San Jose will play LMU on Friday before facing the Aggies on Saturday.
  • Leading SJSU with 19 points are brothers Mitchell and Sam Keightly. Sam is currently tied for first in goals with 14, while Mitchell leads the team with 12 assists.
  • Saturday marks the second time this year the Spartans and Aggies have faced off, with San Jose State taking the first match 11-7 at the Aggie Round Up on Saturday, Sept. 6.
  • LMU is 4-7 this year, losing back-to-back matches to UC San Diego and top-ranked UCLA last week. The Lions play San Jose State on Friday and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday morning before their match against the Aggies.
  • Leading the way for Loyola Marymount is Tommaso Baldineti, who leads his team and ranks ninth in the WCC with 28 goals.
  • In goal, Finn Friedland acts as the primary goalkeeper for the Lions, leading the team with 54 saves.
  • The Aggies lead the all-time series against the Lions 19-12, last playing each other in Southern California in 2022 with Davis emerging as the victors 10-9.
