Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

A Hat Trick From Hitchcock Not Enough As Davis Falls To No. 3 USC

Scores: UC Davis 9, USC 19
Location: Davis, Calif. (Schaal Aquatics Center)
Record: UC Davis 6-7, USC 12-1

The short story: Three goals from Andrew Hitchcock led the way for UC Davis men's water polo in their home loss to the USC Trojans on Sunday, Sept. 28.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With USC getting the first three on the board in the first, the Aggie scoring was kicked off by Brody Crouch.
  • The Trojans got two more on the board, but Adam Ting also found the back of the net to keep his team within three, 2-5, at the end of eight minutes.
  • After seeing their opponent extend to a four-goal lead, Hitchcock and Oleg Shatskikh went back-to-back to put the Aggies back within two.
  • With less than a minute remaining in the second, Hitchcock responded to a Trojan score to keep his team in striking distance going into the half, 5-7.
  • The third quarter was a high-scoring affair for both clubs.
  • Hitchcock secured a hat trick for the first score of the period, with Thomas Kiesling and Gabe Bensen joining him on the scoresheet.
  • But six goals from Southern California put them up 13-8 going into the final frame.
  • An early score from Timothy Kerr matched a USC goal in the first minute of the fourth.
  • But that would be the last goal for the Aggies, as they would fall 19-9 to the Trojans.
UP NEXT: The Aggies play in their final tournament of the year next weekend when they head across the Bay to play in the San Jose State Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 4. The day will begin against the host Spartans at 10:30 a.m. PT before wrapping up with LMU at 3:00 p.m. PT. The game against San Jose State will be streamed live on ESPN+.
