The short story: Four total goals from Thomas Kiesling and Andrew Hitchcock led UC Davis to a 1-1 record on day 2 of the Overnght MPSF Invitational. The Aggies dropped a game over UCLA in the morning before taking a win over Big West rival Long Beach State in the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
  • After the Bruins scored the first two goals of the morning, Oleg Shatskikh, Hitchcock, and Thomas Marr went back to back to back to give Davis a 3-2 lead halfway through the first.
  • Following a score from UCLA's Jackson Harlan, Kiesling got on the board with his first, snatching a 4-3 lead before two quick goals from the opposition gave UCLA a 5-4 lead after the first.
  • Through the second and third quarters, the Bruins continued to add onto their advantage, going up by as much as nine with two minutes left in the third.
  • However, the Ags wouldn't give up, with goals from Kiesling, Hitchcock, William Fosselman and Oriol Viñas putting them within five, 8-13, going into the final frame.
  • Two quick strikes from UCLA put them up seven to open the fourth. Kiesling responded with his third of the day but the Bruins continued to add on, going up 17-9 with two minutes remaining.
  • Austin Quick and Max Prokhin would find the back of the net for the first time, but their scores along with Marr's second would be the final of the day for the Aggies as they would fall 12-19 to begin the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
  • Quarter one was a back and forth affair for both teams, with two from Viñas and one from Shatskikh giving Davis a 3-2 lead early.
  • Caleb Francisco from the Beach tied it at three apiece, but goals from Kiesling and Adam Ting gave the Aggies a 5-3 advantage after one.
  • The shootout continued into the second as Long Beach tied the game at five.
  • But Prokhin and Brody Crouch got on the board to push the lead to two.
  • With a minute left in the half, Zalan Nagy put Long Beach State within one as they would go into halftime down 6-7.
  • Shatskikh, Colin Nicholls, and Marr would push the Aggie lead to as much as three in the third, but the Beach would match blows with their opponent, as Davis would enter the fourth up just one, 10-9.
  • In the fourth, Davis began to pull away, as an offensive explosion featuring two goals each from Hitchcock and Timothy Kerr to put them up 14-9.
  • The Beach would respond with a pair of goals, but Fosselman would put the finishing touches on a 15-11 win to end the day for the Aggies.
