Jacob Westberg finished with five birdies and an eagle en route to a 3-under 69, while classmate
Lucas Carper posted three birdies on the front nine to finish with his second-straight round of 70, leading the UC Davis men's golf team on day two of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate at Hapuna Golf Course in Waimea, Hawai'i, on Friday.
The Aggies finished with a second-round 285 as a team to fall two spots into 13th place overall at 8-under after 36 holes, just one stroke out of a spot in the top 10 and four shots ahead of TCU. Texas Tech leads the team event by a stroke over Arizona State, while the Red Raiders' Baard Skogen holds a two-shot lead in the race for the individual title.
Westberg led the charge to the red on Friday, sharing team-high honors with five birdies and adding an eagle on the par-five third hole en route to his 3-under 69, shooting up the leader board into a tie for 47th after standing in a tie for 69th on day one.
Carper joined his classmate under par on day two, finishing with an eagle on the par-five 14th hole -- his second of the tournament overall -- and a birdie on No. 17, but was 1-over on the back before rallying after the turn. The sophomore birdied his final three holes of the day to finish 3-under on the front and card his second straight 70 to stand at 4-under for the tournament and a tie for 34th.
After shooting a 6-under 66 on day one, senior
Thomas Hutchison fell into a tie for 21st after shooting an even-par 72. He finished with birdies on No. 12, No. 14, and No. 3 to close out his day, standing seven shots off the lead.
Sophomores
Mark Stephens and
Alejandro Nava also carded five birdies apiece en route to rounds of 74 and 75, respectively, on day two, standing in a tie for 90th and 97th.
