Aggies Post More Top-10 All-Time Marks in Washington and New Mexico

DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis women's indoor track team had no issue posting top-10 all-time marks in different parts of the country this weekend.

A small distance contingent returned to Dempsey Indoor in Washington for the Husky Classic. At the same time, a larger group of Aggies headed east to Albuquerque for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

The group might have been small, but the Aggies posted two program top-10 times in the 5,000m. A pair of freshmen in Hope Bergmark and Danielle Barrett etched their names in the record books in just the second meet of their careers.

In the 5,000m, Bergmark posted the third-fastest time in school history, crossing the line in 16:41.73. Barrett now holds the seventh fastest time at UC Davis with a 16:59.80.

In one of the top meets early in the indoor season, the Aggies were well represented in New Mexico. Sophomore Kerrington Smith leaped to the fourth-best mark in indoor school history with a 39-2.50 (11.95m) to finish second in her flight.

Junior Deja Ingram was just off her top-10 time of 7.73 in the season opener, clocking a 7.75 in the 60m. She posted a much-improved time of 25.06 in the 200m.

Junior Marlene Gutierrez bettered her weight throw from the same meet two years ago with a throw of 53-6.50 (16.32m) and then uncorked a 47-05.75(14.47m) to win her flight in the shot put.

The Aggies will now gear up for the MPSF Championships. The two-day meet will be held on Feb. 18-19 in Spokane, Wash.
