RENO, Nev. — UC Davis indoor track and field recorded a dominant opening day at the MPSF Championships, garnering four individual finishes in the top five and securing a wave of top ten performances.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hailey Hernandez led the charge in the field events, securing a third-place podium finish in the weight throw with a mark of 17.95m, while Ningning O'Brien followed in 11th with a toss of 16.10m.
- On the track, Kadidja Sangare clocked a blistering 8.49 in the 60m hurdles prelims to take second place and secure an automatic qualifier for Monday's final.
- Maya Shinnick added to the top-five tally, finishing fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 24.14.
- In the long jump, Kadidja Sangare notched her second top-five finish of the day by taking fourth (5.88m), while Kylee Davis secured 10th (5.58m). Riley Lankford (13th) and Lily Holman (18th) also represented the Aggies in the pit.
- Kylee Davis also excelled in the high jump, clearing 1.45m to finish eighth overall.
- In the pole vault, Atianna Marquez (9th) and Shae Wright (10th) both cracked the top ten by clearing 3.73m and 3.58m, respectively.
- Rujeko Munetsi (11th, 7.63) and Lily Holman (23rd, 7.82) both competed in a fast 60m dash preliminary field.
- The distance crew saw a gritty 11th-place finish from Stormy Wallace (17:39.07) in the 5000m run, with Fiona McGrath taking 15th (17:56.05) and Brooke Butler finishing 20th (18:24.00).
- To close out the evening, the Distance Medley Relay team of Aguirre, Christy, Janik, and Trenam combined for an 8th-place finish with a time of 12:07.85.
- Emma San also completed the five-event Pentathlon circuit throughout the day, highlighted by seventh-place finishes in both the shot put and long jump, to finish ninth overall (3053 points).
