GLENCOE, Ill. — Sophomore
Jacob Westberg fired an opening round 69 to finish at 2-under before the day's second round was halted due to darkness as the UC Davis men's golf team wrapped up day one at the Windon Memorial Classic on Monday at the Lake Shore Country Club.
Five teams were unable to complete a full 36 holes on Monday as play is scheduled to resume at 5:30 a.m. PT, with Tuesday's scheduled final round set for 6:15 a.m. PT.
The Aggies currently sit in 13th place as a team at 11-over-par, shooting an opening round 290 and bettering that mark with a 289 in the second round. UC Davis is one shot ahead of Indiana and stand six shots behind Ohio State in the team race, with everyone chasing Notre Dame, which holds a one shot lead at 10-under.
Individually, Westberg sits in a tie for 29th with an even-par 142, following up his opening round 69 with a 2-over 73. Starting on the 10th hole, the Sacramento native was 1-over on the back before rebounding on the front nine, finishing with three birdies over his final five holes to finish 3-under en route to his 69. Westberg then carded a pair of birdies on the back of the second round, but was undone by a double bogey on the par-four second hole after the turn.
Sophomore
Lucas Carper followed Westberg by finishing day one in a tie for 51st, opening the day with a 74 before bouncing back with an even-par 71 to stand at 3-over for the day. Fresh off his second career collegiate victory, senior
Thomas Hutchison stands in a tie for 62nd when play was halted, shooting rounds of 76 and 71, followed by sophomore
Alejandro Nava in a tie for 66th at 6-over, and sophomore
Mark Stephens in a tie for 74th, standing one shot back at 7-over.
