KA'ANAPALI, Maui — Senior
Madison Wood finished with a 1-over 73 on the final day at the ninth annual Anuenue Spring Break Classic, but it was enough to hold off teammate
Jackie Lucena for individual medalist honors by a single shot, as the UC Davis women's golf team claimed the team title by 20 strokes on Wednesday afternoon at the Ka'anapali Golf Course in Maui.
The Aggies led wire-to-wire en route to the program's 23rd all-time tournament victory and the first since finishing 8-under as a team to win the Fresno State Lexus Classic on April 1-2, 2019. It was also UC Davis' second-ever win at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic after claiming the 2015 crown, having never finished lower than seventh in six trips to the event.
Finishing with a 2-under 214 for the three-day event,
Madison Wood earned her first career collegiate victory and the first by an Aggie since
Christine Danielsson won the Fresno State Lexus Classic with a 7-under 209 two years ago. Her final score of 214 is a career-low, besting the 215 shot at the Gunrock Invitational to open the year.
Madison Wood and Lucena were the only two individuals to finish the week under par as Lucena ended the tournament with a 1-under 215 following her final day 74. Lucena's second-place finish was a career-best, surpassing the tie for fourth at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational last season, and her second top-10 finish of the year.
Senior
Hannah Sun moved up two spots and finished in a career-best tie for third with a 5-over 221, matching Portland State's Jasmine Cabajar and besting her fourth-place finish at the 2019 Fresno State Lexus Classic. Junior
Andrea Gomez Lloret also posted a top-10 finish, tying for a career-best 10th with a 13-over 229, while senior
Skyler Wood finished 15th with her best round of the weekend to round out the scoring group.
Freshmen Alexadra Tomita and
Linette Jun, competing as individuals, finished in 14th and 19th place, respectively.
UC Davis breaks until April 12-13, when the Aggies head to the Central Valley to compete at the two-day Fresno State Classic at the Copper River Country Club — the team's final warm-up prior to the Big West Conference Championships on April 19-21 in Yorba Linda, Calif.
