SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Junior Jered Espanola and senior
Bianca Becker won the men's and women's pole vault, respectively, while sophomore
Anthony Easter picked up an event win in the men's 110-meter hurdles, highlighting UC Davis action at the Hornet Invitational track and field meet at Hornet Stadium Saturday.
The Aggies finished fourth among the five-team field on the men's side, while the women placed fifth. Stanford anbd Montana State shared the team win on the women's half of the meet with 132 points each, with the Bobcats running away with the men's victory at 209 points.
Espanola cleared the five-meter mark for the second time this season, clearing 5.05 meters, or 16 feet, 6.75 inches, on his first attempt at the height. Becker was one of two entrants to jump 3.65 meters (11-11.75), along with teammate
Katrina Meier. Becker won the meet on attempts, besting the bar at 3.50 and 3.65 on the first go each time. Meier jumped 3.50 and 3.65 on her second attempts at both heights.
Easter won the three-man race in the hurdles with a personal-record 14.17-second clocking. That beats his previous best of 14.34, set at the 2019 Big West Conference meet, and moves him ahead of Karl Moran (2014) for sixth in school history.Â
Marlene Gutierrez also had a solid meet for UC Davis, finishing second in the shot put at 13.73m (45-0.5) and third in the hammer throw at 49.98m (164-0).
The Aggies return to action in two weeks with a split-squad weekend: most of the team will head to CSUN for a two-day road meet, while the distance runners will compete at the Stanford Invitational.
