IRVINE, Calif. — The UC Davis track and field team wrapped up the first leg of the postseason on Saturday, as
Justin Reichenberg and
Charlie Bowers completed the final five events of the decathlon at the Big West Multi-Event Championships. After two grueling days of competition at UC Irvine, Reichenberg secured a fifth-place conference finish to lead the Aggie duo.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore
Justin Reichenberg improved upon his freshman debut, moving up the leaderboard to claim fifth place overall with a career-best score of 6,622 points. Reichenberg opened the second day with a strong fifth-place showing in the 110m hurdles (15.64) and remained steady through the field events, taking seventh in the discus (36.36m).
Freshman
Charlie Bowers completed his first career conference multi-event championship, finishing ninth overall with a total of 5,129 points. Bowers showed consistent effort across the final day, highlighted by an eighth-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 38.92m. He navigated the hurdles in 18.68 and cleared 3.51m in the pole vault before closing out his debut championship appearance with a determined run in the 1500m (5:25.32).
Continuing his success in the vertical jumps, Reichenberg cleared 4.11m in the pole vault to finish fifth. He added another seventh-place finish in the javelin (44.71m) before digging deep in the finale, where he took fourth place in the 1500m with a time of 4:48.72 to solidify his fifth-place standing in the Big West.
UP NEXT: The Aggies head to Long Beach next weekend as the full squad competes in the Big West Championships on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16.
