Aggies up two spots after day two in Hawai’i

Hutchison moves into the top 10, Kim posts sub-par round

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i — The UC Davis men's golf team was three shots better than Thursday's opening-round score at the 29th annual Amer Ari Invitational, moving up two spots into a tie for 14th with No. 26 Oregon State at the conclusion of day two at the Waikoloa Kings Golf Course on Friday.

The Aggies stand at 1-under for the tournament after finishing at 2-under for the day, just five shots back of a spot in the top 10. UC Davis leads a quintet of schools — including standing four shots clear of No. 25-ranked Stanford. Led by individual leader Tyler Strafaci, who is 13-under for the tournament and holds a two-shot lead entering Saturday's final day, No. 2 Georgia Tech holds a five-shot advantage on the team leaderboard over No. 19 Texas after shooting a second-round 269.

Junior Thomas Hutchison collected his second straight round in the 60s with his second-round 68, standing in a five-way tie for ninth at 7-under for the tournament. Friday's performance allowed the San Jose, Calif., native to jump eight spots in the standings, rebounding after shooting 2-over on the back nine by playing his final seven holes at 6-under — including an eagle on the par-five fourth hole.

Sophomore Daniel Kim fired his best round of the weekend thus far with a 1-under 71, moving up 13 places in the standings into a tie for 67th at 1-over for the tournament. He finished with three birdies on the back nine and eagled the par-five fourth hole for the second straight day to highlight's Friday's second round and stands as one of seven golfers in the field with multiple eagles.

Sophomore Shane Muldowney finished with a 1-over 73 for the second straight day and is 2-over for the tournament to stand in a tie for 77th. Freshman Jacob Westberg is 3-over for the tournament and in a tie for 84th, posting three birdies on the front nine on Friday, while classmate Lucas Carper stands in a tie for 111th after day two.
