Aggies wrap up final round at The Prestige

Sophomore Shane Muldowney finishes fifth in individual event

LA QUINTA, Calif. — Sophomore Natheethorn Teacharuangchit and freshman Jacob Westberg posted the Aggies' low rounds of the day on Wednesday, each finishing with a 1-under 70 to pace the UC Davis men's golf team in the final round of the 20th annual The Prestige presented by Charles Schwab at the Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST in La Quinta, Calif.

Ranked No. 16 in the nation, Texas took home its first team title at this event, firing a final round 278 to finish at 20-under for the tournament, outpacing second-place and top-ranked Pepperdine by six strokes. The Longhorns, whose 832 team total is tied for the third-lowest in tournament history, become the 13th different school to claim a title at The Prestige, posting the lowest score relative to par since LSU finished at 26-under to win the 2016 crown.

Host UC Davis finished in a tie for 14th following a final round 287 against a field that featured 11 teams ranked among the top 50 in the nation — six of those ranked among the top 25.

Individually, San Diego State's Leo Oyo held off Oklahoma State's Austin Eckroat for medalist honors, following up a pair of 68s with a final round 66 to finish with an 11-under 202 for the 54-hole event and a one-stroke victory. Oyo's 11-under score is the lowest for an individual medalist at The Prestige since LSU's Zach Wright finished 12-under at the 2016 tournament and tied for the seventh-lowest winning total in tournament history.

Junior Thomas Hutchison was the Aggies' leader in the clubhouse, finishing in a tie for 21st with a 1-under 212, posting his sixth top-25 finish in seven starts this year. However, it was Teacharuangchit and Westberg that led the charge for UC Davis on the day, with the former finishing 2-under on the back nine which included an eagle on the par-5 16th, while the latter opened his final round with a 1-under on the back before finishing at even-par on the front.

The trio led the Aggies with four birdies apiece on the final day, while Hutchison tied for ninth with 13 total birdies in the tournament. Teacharuangchit was one of eight players to finish with an eagle on the week, a list that was led by Oyo, who had three of the 10 total.

Westberg eventually finished in a tie for 52nd, followed by classmate Lucas Carper, who ended his tournament in a tie for 57th at 6-over following a final round 73. Teacharuangchit, whose 70 was a season low, finished in a tie for 71st, while sophomore Daniel Kim ended his week in 76th.

Meanwhile, at The Prestige Individual Tournament at the nearby Coral Mountain Golf Club, sophomore Shane Muldowney wrapped up a rather successful stay in La Quinta with his third consecutive sub-par round — and his second straight in the 60s — firing a final round 69 to finish in fifth place with a 9-under 207. The performance marked his best collegiate finish as well as his lowest 54-hole score as an Aggie, both topping his finish and score at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational earlier this year when he finished in a tie for 20th with an even-par 216.

Freshman Mark Stephens posted his second top-20 finish of the season, ending the individual tournament in a tie for 20th with a 4-over 220, shooting a final-round 74.

UC Davis is now off until March 9-10, when the Aggies head to Southern California to compete at the Lamkin San Diego Classic hosted by San Diego State at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif.
