LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Sophomore
Shane Muldowney shot a pair of even-par 71's on Monday, leaving him in a tie for 12th place individually and helping the UC Davis men's golf team to a ninth-place finish following 36 holes at the 23rd Windon Memorial Classic hosted by Northwestern at the Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill.
Notre Dame leads the field with a 10-under 558, four shots ahead of second-place Ole Miss, and six shots better than South Florida in third. Individually, Marquette's Hunter Eichhorn shot 65-66 on the day to stand at 11-under for the day, standing six shots ahead of the Fighting Irish's Hunter Ostrom and the Rebels' Sarut Vongchaisit in second.
Four of Muldowney's six birdies on the day came on the front nine, where he closed out his day with birdies on No. 6 and No. 9 en route to his second 71 of the tournament. In the first round, the Carlsbad, Calif., native birdied No. 1 and No. 2 en route to a 1-under 34 on the front after shooting a 1-over 37 on the back.
Joining Muldowney in the top 20 was defending tournament champion
Thomas Hutchison, who shot a 1-under 70 in Monday's round two to finish at 1-over for the day. The San Jose, Calif., native finished birdie-birdie on the day to secure his second sub-par round of the season — both of those coming in the second rounds of their respective tournaments.
He also finished his first round strong, carding birdies on three of his final four holes to finish at 1-under on the front nine and 2-over for the round.
