AZUSA, Calif. — To conclude action at the Azusa Invite, the Aggies picked up a handful of personal best marks, and moved up in the record books in three events.
Highlighting the day, Kirsten Carter hit PR's in both the women's 100m and 200m, and sits in the top-four in the conference for both events. In the 100m, Carter broke a four-way tie for fourth place in the Big West, running 11.84 to sit alone in fourth. Later competing in the 200m, Carter carried her momentum, crossing in 23.73 for second in the Big West. Both marks improve her standings in the all-time record book, as Carter's 100m is now seventh all-time, and her 200m is second all-time at UC Davis, and is within half a second of Ashley Marshall's 2013 school record of 23.25. With the addition of the 200m time to the record books, Carter now holds a spot in three individual events, becoming just the second Aggie currently on the women's team to do so, joining senior Erinn Beattie with the elite distinction.
In the women's 100m hurdles, Xjaedah Williams PR'ed in the event, running 14.14 to improve her third all-time mark in the record book by a hundredth of a second, and catapulting her to a top-ten Big West mark. Anaya Ward saw action in the women's 800m, clocking a PR of 2:10.21, and continuing a streak of four consecutive collegiate PR's in the 800m.
On the men's side, Max Glasser made strides in his 200m time, hitting a PR of 21.61, bettering his previous 21.81 at the Woody Wilson Classic last weekend, and notching a top-ten Big West time. Glasser just missed the top-ten all time list, as No. 10 is Shola Adeyemo's 21.60 mark set in 1990. Racing in the 800m, Xolan Brown hit a season-best 1:50.88, just a tenth of a second off his personal best set at the same meet last year. If Brown wasn't already in UC Davis' record book, Friday's time would have been good for a top-ten spot, and currently sits in the top handful of times in the conference.
In the handful of field events taking place on Friday, Stasia Kubicki cleared a season-best 3.90m (12-09.50) in the women's pole vault, just two centimeters (three-quarters of an inch) short of her personal best mark of 3.92m (12-10.25).
Competing at the 25th Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State, Michael Pertusati, Erika Contreras, and Marlene Gutierrez represented the Aggies in the hammer throw, with all three making solid marks to open the meet for UC Davis. Action continues Saturday, April 20, at the Beach Invite, featuring a similar lineup to today's Azusa meet.
