MORAGA, Calif. — UC Davis women's tennis advances three to the final day of action at the SMC Fall Invite, led by junior Sara Tsukamoto.
Tsukamoto started the day with an 8-6 doubles win with partner Lauren Ko over Cal's Katerina Stoukalova and Jessica Zeynel to reach the A flight consolation final. The Aggie tandem will face a mixed-program team of Alexis Nelson (Cal) and Melissa Pick (Wisconsin) Sunday morning at 9 AM.
Nikita Pradeep and partner Kristina Breisacher reached the main draw semifinal in the top flight, but fell to Pacific's Anna Ramos Vinolas and Karina Vyrlan.
Carrying her winning ways over to singles, Tsukamoto put up two straight-set wins to reach the A flight consolation semifinal on Sunday morning against Wisconsin's Charmaine Seah. Joining Tsukamoto in the semifinal round, freshman Yana Gurevich won her first consolation match with a retirement after leading Pacific's Elise Frigout 4-1, and received a walkover win over Elvena Gevargiz (SCU). If Gurevich, who takes on Cal Poly's Emily Monaghan, and Tsukamoto both win, they will advance to face each other in the top flight consolation final.
In the B flight, Ko led an Aggie trio, defeating Pacific's Maya Lopez in a dominant 6-2, 6-2 fashion, before falling to St. Mary's Jordan Harris in the quarterfinals.
Third-seeded Shirley Hall pushed Gabriela Tevez to three sets in a rematch of a summer tournament meeting, but was forced to retire in the third set due to injury. Breisacher went head-to-head with the bracket's fourth seed, Lara Marco Mas (SJSU), taking the first set, but would fall in three.
Sunday's action begins with the final round of doubles at 9 AM, with two rounds of singles scheduled to follow.
