The Short Story: UC Davis women's tennis entered the final singles competition tied at three apiece and fought all the way to the third set of their last court, but the team wrapped up the 2025-26 season with a 3-4 loss to Hawai'i on Wednesday, Apr. 22.
COURTSIDE
- The Aggies battled back from a 3-1 deficit halfway through the singles round of competition to tie things 3-3.
- Getting wins in both singles and doubles, Maya Youssef finished her senior season with nine total victories.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite opening doubles with a 6-4 win in the twos, the Aggies dropped the next two competitions to give Hawai'i the doubles point.
- Through the first five courts of singles play, both teams went back and forth, with Maya Youssef giving Davis their first point of the day with a sweep in the fourth court.
- Down 3-1, gutsy wins from Mika Ikemori and Penelope Wong tied the match at three apiece, with everything coming down to the fives.
- After dropping the first set, Aileena Hu bounced back with a 6-4 win, sending her game to a third.
- She battled hard all the way to the end, but a 2-6 loss would end the Aggies season as Hawai'i would move onto the second round with a 4-3 victory.
