SAN FRANCISCO - Freshman Thomas Hutchison birdied two of his six final holes en route to a 2-over-par 73, UC Davis' low individual round during Friday's portion of the Goodwin men's collegiate golf tournament at TPC Harding Park. Hutchison has 143 strokes through 36 holes, good for a tie for 41st place, while the Aggies totaled a 12-over 296 to move into 23rd in the team standings.
Oklahoma, ranked No. 6 in Wednesday's Golfweek Sagarin national rankings, took over the top spot in the team race with a 15-under 269 on Friday. The Sooners have a 548-stroke total, five in front of No. 5 California. In fact, the top nine teams of the 26-team field ranks among the top 50 by either Golfweek or Golfstat. Senior
Brandon Baumgarten, who led UC Davis with a 69 in Thursday's action, added a 4-over 75 on Friday to move behind one stroke behind his teammate Hutchison. Baumgarten sits among a 10-way tie for 47th in the individual standings. Junior
Ryan Han ranks T92nd with a 149 total, junior
Tanner Hughes shares a piece of 116th place at 152, while senior
Evan Knight completes the Aggie fivesome with his 153 total. Han, Hughes and Knight each improved from their Thursday rounds: 75 to 74 for Han, 77 to 75 for Hughes, 79 to 74 for Knight. Oregon's Norman Xiong, ranked fifth nationally by Golfweek, carded his second straight 65 to move to the top of the individual leaderboard. Stanford's Jeffrey Swegle is in second at 8-under 134, while Cal's Collin Morikawa and Oklahoma's Brad Dalke, share third place with 135 strokes. Morikawa and Dalke also rank among Golfweek's top 20. The 49th installment of Stanford's premier home tournament, formerly named the United States Intercollegiate, concludes with a final round on Saturday.
