SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - UC Davis's Emily Meyer and Sydney Holmes took away the first and second-place titles in the women's pole vault, respectively, while on the men's squad, Drew Xandrine-Anderson and T.K. Dodds scored the top two places in the men's triple jump, to highlight the first day of action at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Saturday.
In total, the Aggies came away with 15 top-10 finishes, 13 of which came from the field events.
In the women's jumping events, Emily Meyer's 3.50m/11-5.75 pole vault was good for a first-place finish, while Holmes left the field with a second-place, 3.35m/10-11.75 pole vault, as well as and a fifth-place long jump of 5.42m/17-9.50m. In addition, Julliette Alliaume's high jump of 1.58m/5-2.25 helped her secure a spot in fifth, while Molly Klipfel's triple jump of 10.35m/33-11.50 was good for sixth place.
For the men's jumping events, Xandrine-Anderson and Dodds finished in first with a 15.21m/49-11.00 leap and in second with a total measurement of 15.07m/49-5.50, respectively, in the triple jump. Among the other Aggie contingents, Thomas Grossman led the UC Davis men's team of five with his second place long jump measuring 7.11m/23-4.00, while Xandrine-Anderson placed directly behind his teammate in third with his 6.96m/22-10.00 leap. Jered Espanola's 4.65m/15-3.00 pole vault helped him to a second-place finish, while Spencer Kemmerer's 1.94m/6-4.25 high jump allowed him to secure a spot in third.
For the running events, sophomore Sarah Anderson led the Aggie team of three in the women's 10,000 with a time of 36:14.36, good for a ninth-place finish, while senior Austin Goins clinched a top-10 finish of his own in the men's 1,500 with a 3:52.17 clock time.
The UC Davis track and field team returns to action tomorrow morning as the Aggies in the Bay Area continue their participation in the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, while the Aggies in Fullerton, California, start their one-day of action at the Titan Team Challenge.
