2021: BIG WEST CHAMPION in pole vault (5.21m/17-1.0)... NCAA QUALIFIER, placing t30th (5.15m/16-10.75) at West Prelims meet at Texas A&M... Ranked 40th in the West, 59th nationally going into that meet... Hit PR of 5.22m/17-1.5 at home in the Causeway Track Classic, 5th in school history and one of six meet wins for the year... Broke 5-meter barrier six times overall.
2020: Competed at Cal Opener (3/7) but did not post a height... Remainder of season was canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic.
2019: BIG WEST CHAMPION in pole vault, clearing 5.11m/16-09.25 for the title... NCAA QUALIFIER, placing 25th at West Prelims (4.96m/16-03.25)... Broke 5-meter mark for the first time with 5.10m/16-9.25 effort at Hornet Invite (3/16), then bested it with 5.13m/16-10 at home in Woody Wilson Classic (4/13).
2018: Competed in the pole vault at six meets… Hit his best mark of 4.75m at both the Hornet Invitational on Mar. 17 and at the Aggie Open on Mar. 10… Received second-place finishes in this event at both the SFSU Distance Carnival on Mar. 30 and the Causeway Classic on Apr. 27… Finished 9th at the Big West Track and Field Championships just below his personal-best mark with a 4.73m height.
JAMES LOGAN HS ’17: Did track and field all four years as a pole vaulter… Received the Outstanding Field Performance during his junior year and senior year… Got a spot at number six place on his school’s top ten list for pole vaulting his junior year… Broke the school second with a 16’2” jump during the 2017 season, where the previous record was 15’3”, which was set back in 2006… During his senior year, he also got first place at the CIF North Coast Section Meet of Champions… Outside of high school, he was a member of the Mission Valley Track and Field Club for four years, and in one of the years, he placed in third at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships.
PERSONAL: Born in Palo Alto, Calif… Has not declared a major yet, but is interested in finding a study under the life sciences… Parents are Jeuel and Angel… Has an older brother Brenden… Something most people may not know about him is that he did gymnastics for 10 years… Says his proudest personal accomplishment is breaking the school record with a 16’2” jump… Wants to pursue a career in the medical field… The reason why he chose UC Davis was for the academics, the area around the university, and it is close to home.
