Final Results

KAPALUA, Hawai'i -
When UC Davis returned to The Bay Course for the Anuenue Spring Break Classic's final round, it opened Wednesday's play in fifth, one stroke behind Oregon State and 11 behind Long Beach State, which sat in third place through 36 holes. After a round that saw sophomore psychology major Rei Nakatani shoot a 3-under 69, the lowest individual score of the day, junior sociology major Samantha Hutchison finish at even par with her 72, and freshman psychology major Hannah Sun post a 1-over 73, the Aggies recorded a final round score of 290, three strokes lower than their second round score, and 16 fewer than Monday's opening round result to jump past the Beavers and 49ers on the team leaderboard and finish the tournament in third place.

Nakatani was one of only five golfers to shoot under par for the day thanks to four birdies earned throughout her first 11 holes. By ending her final tour of the course with pars on eight of nine holes, she posted a career-low round and the first sub-70 score as an Aggie. In the process, she enjoyed the biggest climb of any competitor on Wednesday - 27 positions - with her jump from 37th place to 10th.

With its final round charge, the team finished the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at 25-over, 10 strokes behind No. 29 Louisville and event host Hawai'i, teams that tied for first at 15-over.

Including freshman communication major Madison Wood, who finished with 2-over 74 on Wednesday, a tournament-high four Aggies finished with a top 10 individual score. Competing as an individual, Wood led all UC Davis golfers with a 4-over 220 and finished tied for sixth in her first spring contest; sophomore managerial economics major Christine Danielsson ended in ninth overall with a 5-over 221; Nakatani and Hutchison each shot 6-over for the event and finished tied for sixth with matching 222s.

Sun's strong round allowed her to leave the islands tied for 18th with an 8-over 224, sophomore undeclared major Yoonhee Kim rounded out the Aggies' contingent tied for 42nd at 13-over (229).

Both Hutchison and Sun enjoyed a similar trend from the Classic's first day to its last: Both posted lower individual scores each day as the tournament progressed. After starting with a 76 in the opening round, the former trimmed two shots off her score in each of the following two days. For the latter, Tuesday's score was one shot better than Monday's result; Sun also finished Wednesday's 18-hole round with two-stroke improvement compared to yesterday.

With all but one of the league's teams competing at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic, the last few days provided a snapshot of what could take place when the Aggies return to action in its next tournament - the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship. That three-day event, hosted by UC Irvine, will take place at the Strawberry Farms Golf Course in Irvine beginning on April 15.

After starting the day in third, Long Beach State finished fourth (27-over/891). UC Irvine started and ended the day in sixth (33-over/897), Cal Poly dropped two spots to eighth (48-over/912), with UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton ending their stay in Hawai'i in 11th and 12 place with respective scores of 54-over (918) and 57-over (921).

Hawai'i's Kaci Masuda claimed the individual title with her 4-under 212 score.
