Aggies climb two spots on Tuesday

March 27, 2018

Live Scoring

KAPALUA, Hawai'i - Sophomore managerial economics major Christine Danielsson finished Tuesday's second round at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic with a 4-under score for the day, the lowest recorded by any of the 69 golfers that continued play at Kapalua Bay Course, to launch herself up the individual leaderboard by 22 positions.

When the second day of action started, Danielsson was tied for 28th; when she finished a 1-under back nine by recording her 12th par of the day on the 18th hole, she returned to the clubhouse tied for sixth at 1-over for the event thanks to her 68, the lowest individual score of her career and the Classic's second round.

The Paris, France, native is one of two Aggies who will enter the final day in the top 10 since freshman communication major Madison Wood continued to shine in her spring debut by recording an even score. By shooting 72, she is tied for eighth with a 2-over 146 and, like her teammate, are within striking distance of Louisville's Lauren Hartlage who ended the second round as the tournament's leader at 4-under (140).

As a team, UC Davis posted a score 13 strokes lower than Monday's result and climbed two spots on the team leaderboard to fifth place (+23/599) thanks to combined 5-over 293 effort for the day. Trailing Oregon State by only one shot, the Aggies placed themselves in position for a potential top-three finish since Big West foe Long Beach State sits third at 12-over.

Tournament host Hawai'i leads the 13-team field at 3-over with its 579 overall score.

A bogey on seven was the lone blemish of Danielsson's day since she recorded four of her five birdies on the front nine. Consistent play throughout the following nine holes, highlighted by a 2 on the 144-yard par-3 17th, led to a career-low round.

Even though Wood is a first-year Aggie, she tackled the Kapalua Bay Course like a veteran by recording a 1-under score throughout her first nine holes. By shooting even par on the back nine, Tuesday's 72 was two strokes fewer than her opening-round score, which allowed her to hold the lowest overall total among a group of golfers competing as individuals.

Throughout the first two days of the tournament, UC Davis has excelled on the course's par 5s, and is shooting 5-under. Only Hawai'i and Louisville, the Anuenue Spring Break Classic's top two teams (through 36 holes) fared better on this type of hole since each are a combined 11-under.

The Aggies' 11-over score on par 3s is the second-lowest, trailing Hawai'i with its 1-over result.

UC Davis will compete alongside Oregon State, Santa Clara and UC Irvine throughout Wednesday's final round, which will begin at 8 a.m. HT / 10 a.m. PT.
