Results SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Emma Redick and Jason Chandler swept the women's and men's 400-meter hurdles races, respectively, while freshman Aspyn Walton won the open 400 on Saturday, as the UC Davis track and field teams put together an impressive afternoon at the Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State.
The Aggies, coming off winter quarter final exams this week, didn't field a full contingent of competitors at the meet but still put together strong marks and finishes.
Walton and teammate Brian Thomas finished 1-2 in the 400, both of them posting times that put them in the top five on the Aggies all-time list. Walton was timed in 47.41 seconds to debut on the list at No. 3 while Thomas crossed in 47.52 to make his first appearance on the ledger at No. 5.
Walton wasn't done yet making his mark on the all-time lists, finishing third in the 200 in 21.63 to move into the No. 10 spot, taking the place of Marshall Watwood (21.64, 1965) who occupied the spot previously.
Redick and Chandler nearly posted PRs in the long hurdles while winning their races. Redick beat a field of 28 other racers and was just one of two that finished under a minute. Redick crossed in 59.48, just off her previous best of 59.17 from the Brutus Hamilton meet at Cal last year that put her No. 3 on the all-time list.
Chandler was timed in 52.28, close to his PR of 52.00 he set at last year's Big West Championships that made him No. 5 all-time at UC Davis.
The Aggie women had two other marks the put dents in the program's all-time lists and freshman Mikaela Adolphus picked up both of them. She got her first in the 400 when she took third in 55.10 that debuted her on that list at No. 5. Adolphus returned to the meet later in the day to finish second in the 200 in 24.61, making her No. 10 on that chart.
Michaela Mundt nearly set a PR in the hammer throw which was contested on Friday. She finished third with a mark of 183 feet, 2 inches which threatened her previous best of 185-10 at last season's conference championships that has her at No. 3 all-time.
Other top-five finishes for the women on Saturday came from Hilary Ojinnaka, who was fifth in the 100 (12.12, wind-aided), Holly Tokar, who tied for fifth in the pole vault (12-1.5) and Catherine Li, who was third in the triple jump (11.82 (38-9.5).
For the men, Maximillian Cawley was third in the high jump (6-9.75), Kyle Clancy tied for fifth (6-8.75) in the same vent, Matthew Bender was fifth in the discus (163-5)and Forrest Hierholzer who tied for fourth in the pole vault (15-11).
UC Davis is off until competing at San Francisco State, Sacramento State and Stanford in two weeks.
