Aggies Ready to Host 2026 El Macero Classic

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis men's golf returns home this week to host the 25th Anniversary of the El Macero Classic (formerly the Aggie Invitational). The three-day, 54-hole event tees off Friday at El Macero Country Club, with 19 teams in the field.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

  • The Aggies return to their home course following a 22nd-place finish at The Goodwin in Stanford.
  • The Event: The 25th Anniversary El Macero Classic (formerly the Aggie Invitational) will feature 54 holes of stroke play, with 18 holes played each day over three days. The low four individual scores count toward the team score each round.
  • The Field: The 19-team field features California Baptist, Colorado State, CSU Fullerton, CSU Northridge, Denver, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, Seattle, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UT Arlington, Washington State, and Wyoming. UC San Diego returns as the defending champion after edging Saint Mary's by one stroke in 2025.
  • New for 2026: The tournament will host an autograph signing session and a free junior clinic on Saturday, April 11. Spectators can also watch The Masters in a viewing area adjacent to the El Macero snack bar, with food and beverage available for purchase. The event is free and open to the public.
  • The starting lineup for UC Davis includes: Zhenxian Zhang, Shaun Nair, Ryan Firpo, Curtis Da Silva, and Lequan Wang. Treed Huang will also compete as an individual.
  • Course: El Macero Country Club – El Macero, Calif.


SEASON NOTES

  • UC Davis returns to action following a trip to Stanford Golf Course, where the Aggies posted a team score of 862 (+22) to finish 22nd in a 30-team field at The Goodwin. The week marked the 10th anniversary of the program's historic team title at the event.
  • Da Silva paces the Aggies coming into the week, finishing as the top UC Davis performer at The Goodwin. Da Silva tied for 44th individually with a 54-hole total of 212 (+2), defeating five players ranked in the top 100 in the country over the course of the tournament.
  • Nair provided steady consistency at The Goodwin, matching Da Silva's final-round 71 to finish tied for 78th at 217 (+7).
  • Zhang enters the El Macero Classic riding momentum after delivering the highlight of the final day at Stanford. The freshman fired a 2-under 68 in the third round — the best score of the day for the Aggies — to jump up the leaderboard and finish tied for 114th at 221 (+11).
  • Wang closed out The Goodwin at 222 (+12) to tie for 121st, while earlier this spring at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational, Wang turned in the standout performance of the Aggies' season, firing a final-round 66 to finish third individually at 15-under par.
  • Head Coach Cy Williams continues his 32nd year at the helm, guiding the Aggies through the final stretch of their 2025-26 spring slate.
