Men's Golf Continues Spring Season with Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational

NAPA, Calif. — UC Davis men's golf heads to wine country this week to compete in the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational. Hosted at the renowned Silverado Country Club, the event is a collaborative effort between Central Michigan, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), and the PGA TOUR's Pathway to Progression.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

  • The Aggies head to Napa looking to build on strong momentum following a solid top-half finish at the R.E. Lamkin Invitational in Chula Vista.
  • The Stakes: This 54-hole stroke-play event carries massive implications, as the individual winner will earn an exemption into the 2026 Blue Championship, an official Korn Ferry Tour event held in July.
  • The Field: The unique, highly competitive field features 10 Division I programs, three HBCU teams (Florida A&M, Howard, and North Carolina A&T), and defending champion Tohoku Fukushi University from Japan.
  • The invitational is a marquee element of the Bridgestone Collegiate Development Program, which is dedicated to creating more equitable access to the sport and enhancing opportunities for collegiate golfers from HBCUs and diverse backgrounds.
  • The starting lineup for UC Davis includes: Shaun Nair, Lequan Wang, Ryan Firpo, Curtis Da Silva, and Ivan Sablan. Treed Huang and Zhenxian Zhang will also make the trip to compete as individuals.

SEASON NOTES

  • UC Davis returns to action following a trip to the San Diego Country Club, where the Aggies posted a team score of 870 (+6) to secure an eighth-place finish in a loaded 16-team field at the R.E. Lamkin Invitational.
  • Nair paces the Aggies coming into the week, finishing as the top UC Davis performer in Chula Vista. Nair tied for 24th individually with a 54-hole total of 217 (+1), highlighted by a stellar 4-under 68 in his opening round.
  • Wang and Firpo provided excellent depth and consistency at the Lamkin Invitational, both securing top-35 finishes. Wang tied for 30th overall at 2-over par (218), fueled by a second-round 69. Firpo finished just one stroke behind him, capping off a highly consistent week (73-74-72) with an even-par final round.
  • Zhang enters the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational riding high after providing the highlight of the final day in San Diego. Zhang fired a team-best 1-under 71 in the third round to jump into a tie for 52nd.
  • Curtis Da Silva (T38) and Treed Huang both gained valuable tournament reps in Chula Vista, while Ivan Sablan officially makes his return to the Aggies' starting five for the Napa trip.
  • Head Coach Cy Williams continues his 32nd year at the helm, guiding the Aggies through the heart of their 2025-26 spring slate.
