LAS VEGAS — Following a statement sweep over Hawai'i on Saturday, UC Davis volleyball has received two of the three Old Trapper Mountain West Player of the Week awards, with
Isabella Umpierre being named the Freshman of the Week and
Ximena Cordero Barr becoming the conference Defensive Player of the Week.
These honors are the fourth of the season for each athlete.
With 26 kills, 21 digs, four blocks, and two aces across both contests, Umpierre played a complete game on both sides of the court. Her 12 kills and 13 digs on Friday gave her a double-double for the eighth time during her freshman season, while her two aces on Saturday put her at 29 on the year, sitting second on the team in that category.
Among Mountain West players, she ranks sixth in both kills per set and aces per set, while also sitting fifth in total points.
As the Aggies defensive leader, Cordero Barr protected the backcourt all weekend long with 35 digs across two contests, going for 19 on Friday and 16 on Saturday. These were the 13th and 14th 15+ dig performances of the season for Cordero Barr.
At 341 total digs on the season, she currently sits second in the Mountain West, only four digs behind the number one player Camila Canedo from New Mexico.
These performances led UC Davis to a three set sweep of Hawai'i on Saturday, giving the Rainbow Wahine their first loss in conference play this year.
