Norris Secures Tenth Double-Double; Aggies Use Second Half Comeback To Beat Titans

FULLERTON, Calif. — A 15-point, 14-rebound night from Megan Norris gave her a tenth double-double on the season, leading UC Davis women's basketball to a comeback victory over Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Jan. 15.

Score: UC Davis 73, Cal State Fullerton 67
Location: Fullerton, Calif. (Titan Gym)
Records: UC Davis 12-5 (5-1), Cal State Fullerton 8-9 (4-3)

OPENING TIP
  • Norris continues her double-double streak with her fourth in the last five games, keeping pace in the top five across the entire NCAA. She also continues to lead the conference in the category.
  • Avery Sussex was the main scoring threat for the Aggies, dropping in 20 points on a career-high six made threes. This is her third 20+ point game of the season.
  • Ryann Bennett also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists. She is the first Aggie with a 10-assist game since Mackenzie Trpcic back in 2021.
  • Tegan Young wrapped up the double-digit scorers for her team with 11 on the night.
  • The contest was close all throughout, featuring five ties and ten lead changes.
  • Defensively, Davis used three blocks and eight steals to force the Titans into 18 turnovers. In turn, the Aggies scored 13 off of those turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nya Epps got the night going with a trey ball from the corner.
  • A 19-point first quarter continued with threes from Young and Bennett, whose triple gave the Aggies an 11-5 lead halfway through the period.
  • The Titans responded with a 9-2 run through the next four minutes of action, leading them to a 19-17 lead after ten.
  • Both teams continued to battle back and forth in quarter number two, with the home Titans building to a seven-point lead despite an early three from Young.
  • In the final two minutes of the half, Sussex turned on the burners with a pair of treys, the second one cutting the deficit to two.
  • Fullerton responded with a lay-in, but Sophie Lentfer kept it within one possession, 34-36, as both teams entered halftime.
  • Coming out of the locker room, the Titan defense held strong as the Aggies were kept to only a Bennett layup in the first four minutes of the half.
  • Following another trey ball from Sussex, the offense opened up once again, as Lentfer followed that up with her first three before Sussex gave her team the lead with her fourth triple of the night.
  • However, Fullerton refused to back down, despite Sussex tying her career-high fifth three-pointer, the Titans used a pair of triples of their own to hold the lead once again, entering the fourth quarter up 53-52.
  • Three minutes into the final period of action, Sussex set a new career-best with her sixth three-pointer to tie the contest at 57 apiece.
  • From there, three straight points from Young gave her team the lead once again. The Titans fought to keep things close, but a triple from Norris gave her team a 70-63 lead with under two minutes left to play.
  • Free throws from Bennett put the finishing touches on the Aggie scoring, helping to lead her team to a hard-fought 73-67 win.
UP NEXT: The Aggies continue their road trip to the Bren Event Center as they look to take on Big West-leading UC Irvine on Saturday, Jan. 17. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. PT and will be live on ESPN+ and KDVS 90.3.
