WHAT HEAD COACH JENNIFER GROSS HAD TO SAY
"It was fun to see the new uniforms in action today. I've been coaching here for 20 years, so it's always cool to see something new and fun. What a cool partnership we have with Lake Tahoe, and to have our research center there and to celebrate that partnership through sports is really neat. So I was happy that we could participate in that."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Norris got things started on the first possession of the day, cashing in on a layup.
- After assisting on a layup from Epps and putting down another field goal, Norris turned things over to Bennett, who put the team up 8-2 three minutes into the game.
- After Bennett cashed in the first three of the game, Cal Poly looked to cut into the early deficit on an 8-0 run, getting within two.
- But a pair of free throws from Baker followed by a triple from Norris ended the quarter strong for the Aggies, who took an 18-11 lead into the break.
- The three-point barrage continued for the home team into quarter number two, with triples coming from Bennett, Epps, and Tegan Young building a 33-14 lead halfway through the period.
- The Mustangs used a quick 6-0 run to try and get back into it, but the Aggies went to the foul line often late in the quarter, holding off the Cal Poly run to take a 39-20 advantage into halftime.
- UC Davis continued to hold serve in the third period, using a balanced offensive attack that featured nine points from Lentfer and five from Epps to lead a 30-point quarter.
- But Cal Poly had a productive quarter as well, scoring 24 points that included 14 trips to the foul line to bring the score 69-46 in favor of the Aggies after three.
- The Mustang offense got to work to start the fourth quarter, scoring three of the first four.
- A three from Baker kicked off the offensive attack for her team in the period, which featured 11 free throws, including the first two points of the game for Carrington Davis.
- Ultimately, seven points for Baker in the period led the way as the Aggies would cruise to an 87-61 victory.
