IRVINE, Calif. — UC Davis men's soccer collected four All-Big West end-of-season honors, the conference announced Tuesday. Seniors Cason Goodman and Luke Goodman were named to the First Team, senior Zack Lillington earned Second Team honors, and freshman Nami Banks was selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Cason and Luke Goodman became the first set of brothers in program history to earn All-Big West First Team honors in the same season. The Santa Barbara natives, two of four quadruplets, have shared the pitch for the past four years with Cason leading the Aggie attack and Luke anchoring the defense.
Cason Goodman led UC Davis in every major offensive category, starting all 17 matches and finishing with a team-high five goals and four assists for 14 points. He registered his first goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Saint Mary's on Aug. 24 and tallied two goals at Cal State Bakersfield on Oct. 15. Goodman closed out the regular season in front of the Davis crowd by scoring the opening goal in the 2-1 victory over Sacramento State on Nov. 1. This is Goodman's second straight All-Big West First Team selection.
Luke Goodman was the heart of the Aggie defense throughout the season, starting all 17 contests and contributing in every match. The senior defender led all Aggies in minutes played with 1,492 and was key in UC Davis' two shutouts during the regular season. He was a central piece of a back line that helped UC Davis maintain a 252–204 shots advantage over opponents. This marks his first career All-Big West selection.
Zack Lillington earned his second straight All-Big West recognition after producing one of the most complete seasons in the league. The senior midfielder led the team with 50 shots and 22 shots on goal while totaling three goals and three assists. He scored twice in conference play, including the game-winner in the 89th minute against Sacramento State, and added assists against Washington, San Jose State, and Cal State Bakersfield.
Freshman midfielder Nami Banks became the 12th Aggie in program history to earn All-Freshman Team honors. Banks appeared in all 17 matches, scoring two goals and one assist. Both goals came in the 3-2 win over UC Riverside on Oct. 18. A staple all season in the UC Davis lineup, Banks logged the third-most minutes among all Aggies.
UC Davis finished the regular season 4-3-2 in Big West play and 4-8-5 overall, advancing to the Big West Championship for the 14th consecutive year under head coach Dwayne Shaffer. The defending Big West champions open postseason play Wednesday at No. 4 seed Cal State Fullerton, with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. PT at Titan Stadium.
