THE SHORT STORY: UC Davis battled UC Santa Barbara to a scoreless draw Wednesday night at Aggie Soccer Field. The Aggies fired off 11 shots and leaned on another strong effort from goalkeeper Noah Schwengeler, who made six saves to secure the shutout against a Gauchos team who entered the night unbeaten in conference play.

PITCH SIDE
  • Schwengeler finished with six saves, splitting three in each half to record his first shutout of the season
  • Lillington paced the Aggies with three shots, including one on goal, while Dutra and Sanchez also generated chances that tested UCSB's defense
  • The Aggie back line, anchored by Gavin House and Luke Goodman, held the Gauchos to eight total shots and just three corner kicks after halftime
  • Alongside House and Goodman, the Aggies also benefited from strong outings by Zachary Neuls, Nami Banks, and Joshua Gault, who each logged the full 90 minutes, while Gabriel Sanchez provided quality minutes off the bench in the back line

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UC Davis wasted no time pressing forward as Lillington put a shot on frame just over a minute into the match, forcing an early save
  • The Aggies continued to apply pressure through the first half with shots from Dutra and Lillington, but UCSB's keeper held strong
  • On the other end, Schwengeler denied back-to-back attempts in the 21st minute, including a strike from Buba Fofanah, to keep the score level
  • The Aggie defense weathered five Gaucho corner kicks in the opening half, heading to the break still deadlocked at 0-0
  • The second half opened with more action as Schwengeler stopped Steinar Bjornsson's effort in the 50th minute before Sanchez and Ben Elkins countered with chances for UC Davis
  • UCSB pressed late, forcing three more saves from Schwengeler, but the Aggies held their ground to earn the 0-0 result
