THE SHORT STORY
UC Davis delivered a complete performance on both ends of the pitch, earning its first win of the season with a 1-0 shutout over CSUN on Saturday night at Aggie Soccer Field. Gabriel Haggerty netted the game-winner in the 58th minute, capping off an energetic Homecoming Saturday for the Aggie faithful.
PITCH SIDE
- Haggerty's first career goal highlighted an efficient offensive night for the Aggies, who fired 19 total shots with seven on frame
- Declan Horio and Gavin House combined on the assist, while goalkeeper Noah Schwengeler anchored the back line with two crucial saves to secure his second straight clean sheet
- Zack Lillington also added five attempts, testing the CSUN defense throughout the match with two shots on goal to lead the Aggies
- Cason Goodman also made a concerted effort on the attack with four shots, and one on target
- Luke Goodman, Gavin House, Nami Banks and Joshua Gault each played all 90 minutes, contributing to a complete team performance in the shutout win
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UC Davis controlled possession early, pressing high and forcing CSUN into defensive clearances
- Lillington opened the action with a shot in the first minute that was stopped by Matador keeper Dorian Drucks
- Goodman followed with another attempt in the 12th minute, also saved, as the Aggies earned four corners in the opening 20 minutes
- CSUN countered with opportunities of their own, but Schwengeler's steady along with strong Aggie backline play kept the match level through halftime
- The Aggies broke through in the 58th minute when Haggerty slotted home a pass from House, with Horio initiating the corner kick
- The finish marked Haggerty's first goal as an Aggie and the eventual game-winner
- CSUN increased its pressure late, forcing two saves from Schwengeler, but the Aggie defense held strong down the stretch to preserve the 1-0 result for four points in Big West play
