LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – With a final scorecard of -11 and a fifth-place finish at the PGA Tour of America's Qualifying Tournament at the Wigwam Resort former UC Davis men's golf great
Thomas Hutchison has secured his fully exempt spot in the PGA Tour of Americas.
Â
Former Aggie
Lucas Carper made his professional debut, earning conditional status with a 23rd-place finish after shooting -4 over the four rounds.
Â
"Super happy for and proud of Tom and Lucas," said men's golf head coach
Cy Williams. "Tom works very hard on his game so it's exciting to see that pay off for him. He's played a big role at team practices, and everyone loves having him be part of the coaching staff. It was a great day for the Aggie Golf family yesterday and I'm happy for the entire community.Â
Â
"Also great to see Lucas make his professional debut a success. He has a ton of talent and a great work ethic so it's going to be fun to follow his journey as well."
Â
The two-time Big West Men's Golfer of the Year and a former All-American, Hutchison shot 71, 66, 70 and 70 over the tournament to finish inside the top nine. The fully exempt spot was clinched by finishing ninth-or better on the final leaderboard.
Â
"I've been putting a lot of work into my process and playing some great golf this year, so it feels good to secure status in a competitive field," said Hutchison. "I can't wait to compete for a Korn Ferry Tour Card this Summer in Canada."
Â
In Hutchison's second round 66, four birdies on the back-nine helped set him up for a great finish on the Par 72 course. Carper shot 71, 70, 74 and 69 to finish strong with a -3 score in the final round.
