DAVIS, Calif. — Four Aggies received All-Big West Women's Golf honors, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
The quartet of Aggies recognized are highlighted by
Lauren Calderon and
Skyler May who both slotted on the All-Big West Second Team.
Vani Karimanal and
Abby Leighton also earned honorable mention distinction.
Calderon led UC Davis with a 73.6 scoring average and one top-three finish at UC Davis' inaugural Battle at the Boundary. In addition to her top-three finish, Calderon also had a pair of top-10 finishes, where she placed sixth at the Golf Iconic Classic, and seventh in the Aggies win at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational. The sophomore from South Pasadena improved in every facet during her second season with the Aggies and finished the season on a high-note, placing 12th at the Big West Championship.
May was second among Aggies in scoring average at 74.1 on the season. Like Calderon, May had one top-three finish, when she led the Aggies at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational after placing third in the stacked field. This strong performance in Hawai'i signaled the first of a three tournament stretch in which May slotted in the top-10 individually. This is the second consecutive season in which May has found herself on the All-Big West Second Team. May wrapped up her season with a 25th place finish at the Big West Championship.
Karimanal was consistently one of the Aggies top scorers, finishing with a 74.2 scoring average. Karimanal's best finish came at the Battle of the Boundary where she placed fifth. Karimanal posted three top-15 finishes and placed within the top-25 in all but one of her nine tournaments.
Leighton, the former All-Big West First Team selection, is an honorable mention for the second time in her career after being one of two Aggies recognized during the 2022-23 season. With an Aggie best fifth-place finish at the Big West Championship, Leighton was crucial all season to the Aggies success. Placing third at the Couer d-Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational, Leighton was a pivotal member to the record breaking finish in the team's win in Idaho. Leighton recorded four top-15 finishes and wrapped up her junior season with a 74.6 scoring average.
Demi Runas and company will look to build upon their fourth place finish at the Big West Championship next season with an experienced group set to return.
