MAUI, Hawai'I – UC Davis women's golf shot one of its best rounds in program history at the Big West Championships to open its campaign sitting first on the leaderboard after the first round, firing a 285 to sit three-under par for the tournament.
 
IN THE CLUBHOUSE:

• The 285 is the best opening round the Aggies have ever shot at the Big West Championships when the course is a par 72, besting the previous record of 288 set in the opening round of the 2015 championships
• Vani Karimanal led the way for the Aggies, shooting a 69 (-3) to sit tied for second, recording five birdies at the fourth, sixth, 11th, 12th and 17th holes
• The 69 from Karimanal ties for the fourth-best round (par 72) at the Big West Championships in program history and it's ties for the third-best opening round by an Aggie at the championships
• Lauren Calderon shot a 71 in her opening round to sit tied for fifth at -1 for the tournament, with the Aggie senior recording birdies at the fourth, sixth and 12th holes to give the Aggies a pair inside the top five
• Yu "Yoyo" Bai was consistent throughout the opening round, shooting a 72 (E) to enter the clubhouse tied for 10th and sitting tied for 12th is Elina Kuang who shot 73 (+1) to give UC Davis four inside the top 15
• On the day, the Aggies were an impressive -5 on par fives, outpacing the rest of the tournament by three strokes and their 16 total birdies tied for the lead with Cal Poly
