AGGIES' STRUGGLES AT HOME CONTINUE
UC Davis was the dominant team but the goals never came as St. Mary's used a first-half goal to earn the 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field. The Aggies fall to 0-3 at home.

With 19 shots to the Gaels' four, UC Davis created majority of the scoring chances but were unable to truly unlock a stout St. Mary's defense. Many of the opportunities came from outside the penalty area as the hosts mustered just four shots on target over 90 minutes. One well-timed pass was all the visitors needed to find the winning goal, holding on to the one-goal lead for nearly an hour in their win.

SERIES NOTES
San Jose State leads the all-time series 6-4-1 and brings a two-game win streak into Sunday's contest. Last September, the Spartans grabbed a 3-1 win in San Jose. The Aggies picked up 4-2 win in their title-winning campaign in 2019 and followed it up with a 3-0 victory in 2021.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
San Jose State is coming off a solid all-around performance that resulted in a 4-1 win over Sacramento State, bringing its record to 3-2-3 coming into its nonconference finale. The Spartans saw four different goal-scorers, but Angel Iniguez was the star of the two, scoring the opening goal and assisting two others in the win. He has a team-high four goals and five assists on the year.

As a team, San Jose State has outscored its opponents 13-11 despite tallying four fewer shots-per-game compared to its opposition (11.25 – 15.25). Sunday's visitors are unbeaten against teams from the Big West this year, defeating UC San Diego and Sacramento State and playing to a 1-1 draw with Cal State Bakersfield.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Charles Janssen was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week following his incredible goalkeeping display during the opening weekend. Against Ohio State, he was likely the man of the match after his sparkling display between the posts. His six saves were vital in the effort to maintain the lead, flashing a couple tremendous saves in the closing minutes to keep the hosts at bay. The redshirt junior also unbelievably provided an assist for the game-winning goal, launching a beautiful goal kick to spark an attack.

LEADING FROM THE FRONT
UC Davis' leading goal-scorer from a year ago, Ethan Hoard, has been named to the 2023 Big West Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' team, announced Thursday by league officials.

The 2022 All-Big West Honorable Mention impressed in his debut season with the Aggies after transferring in from Green Bay. Hoard netted three goals, a team-high, while creating two assists during the campaign. He also matched a team-best eight points while leading the team in shots (39) and shots on target (18). The Racine, Wisc. native started 16 of 18 matches last season and provided some exciting moments, including his winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Causeway rivals Sacramento State
