UC Davis Prepares for Important Matchup in La Jolla

DAVIS, Calif. – After Saturday's unexpected cancelation, UC Davis (12-12 8-6 Big West) will look to make the most of the extra days of rest before they head to UC San Diego (12-13, 9-6 Big West) on Monday afternoon.

It's an extremely important contest for both sides as the Aggies trail the Tritons by only half a game as the conference schedule winds down. UC Davis still occupies a highly-coveted top-six spot in the standings that will ensure its avoidance of the play-in round, but will look to potentially improve its seeding in the final weeks of the season.

LAST TIME OUT
Tova Sabel and Tess Sussman carried UC Davis women's basketball to victory on Wednesday night as the duo combined for 40 points in the Aggies' 71-50 win over CSUN.
UC Davis struggled in the first half and trailed after the first two periods, and the Matadors seemed unable to miss a shot inside their own gym. The Aggies returned to form and out-scored the Matadors 36-14 over the last 20 minutes to cruise to its sixth win in the last eight games.

Saturday's scheduled game against UC Irvine was canceled due to the Anteaters' lack of available players. The game will be ruled a no-contest and will not be rescheduled.

SERIES HISTORY
After the Tritons edged a 65-63 win in the middle of January, the Aggies still maintain a 15-5 lead in the all-time series. The 21st meeting between the teams will be just the sixth to take place in La Jolla, with UC San Diego winning two of its five tilts inside its own gym.

ABOUT THE TRITONS
UC San Diego sits in fifth place in the Big West standings, just half-game ahead of UC Davis. The Tritons carry a 12-13 record (9-6 Big West) under Head Coach Heidi VanDerveer. Allowing 63.9 points-per-game, UC San Diego is currently the second worst defense in the conference.

Leading scorer Sydney Brown (13.1 ppg) paces an offense that sits sixth in the Big West. UC San Diego recently snapped a two-game skid with its win over CSUN on Saturday afternoon and will look to carry that momentum into the home stretch of the regular season.

TURNER CHASES HISTORY
Evanne Turner recently ascended into 17th on the UC Davis women's basketball all-time scoring list. The junior has tallied 1,088 points for her career and is just one point away from passing Sarah Allen (1998-03) who ranks 16th all-time.

THE THREE-POINT QUEEN
By knocking down her 196th career three-pointer on Jan. 16 against UC San Diego, Evanne Turner broke the UC Davis program record for three-point field goals. Lori Hurlburt held the previous record, making 194 from 1997-2001. Turner currently leads the Big West in three-pointers made (45) and three-pointers-per-game (2.8). She is 27th in the nation for three-pointers-per game and ranks 33rd nationally for total threes.

GROSS MOVES UP THE LADDER
With the win over William Jessup on Dec. 15, Jennifer Gross earned her 205th victory as head coach of the Aggies. With her win over CSU Bakersfield on Jan. 7, Gross tallied win number 206 and now stands alone in second place on the all-time wins list.

NEXT UP
The Aggies will play their final games at the University Credit Union Center when they host Cal State Fullerton and Cal Poly next week on Feb. 23 and Feb. 25. Senior Day will take place on Saturday, as Makaila Sanders, Tess Sussman, Megan Jones, and Lena Svanholm will be recognized prior to tip-off for their contributions to UC Davis women's basketball.
