LAST WEEK
UC Davis erased a two-set deficit to send the match to a decisive fifth frame, but visiting UC Irvine held off the comeback attempt to secure the 3-2 victory on Thursday night in the University Credit Union Center.
Inconsistency on the offensive end was the downfall for Davis' team as it hit .257 in set one and an impressive .435 in set three, but hit below .200 in the each of the remaining sets. On the night, the Aggies posted a hitting percentage of .190 with 26 attack errors. UC Davis also struggled at the service line with 15 service errors.
UC Davis finally earned its first home win of the 2023 season after grinding out an impressive five-set victory (25-23, 18-25, 25-19, 16-25, 5-9) over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies get back to .500 on the year, improving to 12-12 overall (7-7 Big West) as they snap a three-game skid to get back in the win column. The Titans fall to 1-22 (0-14 Big West) and remain winless in Big West play.
750 CLUB
Olivia Utterback recently reached 750 kills for her career. She has been exceptional in her junior season, posting a team-high 281 kills and 2.93 kills-per set, ranking top-10 in the conference in both categories. Her 3.60 points-per-set is top-10 in the Big West but Utterback has also played a huge role in the defense, tallying 210 digs which is the second-most on the team.
EYES ON THE PRIZE
The Big West will feature a postseason conference tournament for the first time in the conference's history following the 2023 regular season. This brand-new championship event will reward the winner with the league's automatic big into the field of the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. The Aggies will hope to be playing their best volleyball Nov. 22-25 in Long Beach for the inaugural conference tournament.
