The short story: Despite a 19 kill night from Jade Light, UC Davis volleyball's postseason run came to an end in a four-set loss to Cal Poly on Saturday, Nov. 29. The Aggies now await potential selection to the NCAA Tournament tomorrow.

FIRST SERVE
  • Light leads the Aggie offense for the second night in a row, also collecting eight digs in the process.
  • Breeze Czapinski was the other double-digit killer with 10 on the night.
  • Allie Caldwell collected six total blocks, putting her at over 100 on the season for the second straight year. Her and Ally Chandler become the first Aggie teammates with 100 or more blocks in a season since 2014.
  • Mia Starr took home her third straight double-double and 12th of the season with 39 assists and 14 digs.
  • Ximena Cordero Barr tied for a team-high 14 digs. Rachel Dunagan also had double-digit digs with 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With a pair of kills from Czapinski and Light, Davis took an early 5-3 lead.
  • After a short run from the Mustangs, Czapinski and Caldwell combined for a block to put Caldwell over 100 on the season, leading to a 9-9 tie.
  • With a 6-0 run from Cal Poly putting them up 15-9 halfway through the set, the Aggies turned to the offense of Light and Victoria Vanos to try and work their way back into the frame.
  • Ultimately, the Mustangs would claim the first 25-16.
  • Set two started similarly to the first, with points from Chandler leading the way in a 5-9 deficit for the Aggies.
  • Davis kept things close into the redzone, with kills from Caldwell and Czapinski putting them within two.
  • On a Cal Poly set point, Light sparked the offense with two quick kills, but the comeback fell short with the Mustangs winning set two 25-21 and going up 2-0.
  • The momentum shifted to the other side of the net in set three, with attacks from Czapinski, Light, and Vanos heating the offense to a 5-0 run and a 15-10 lead halfway through.
  • Following a timeout, Cal Poly slowly worked their way back into the set with kills from Chloe Leluge, using a 6-2 run to tie things up at 18 apiece.
  • Despite the run, the Aggies stayed focused with Light scoring four of the last five points for her team, securing a 25-20 win and forcing a fourth set.
  • After seeing the Mustangs go up 6-3 early in the fourth, Davis kept things close with kills from Chandler, Caldwell, and Czapinski, finding themselves down only 13-15 halfway through the frame.
  • On the other side of the media timeout, Cal Poly began to pull away with a 9-1 run, taking a late 24-15 lead.
  • Despite a quick point from Davis, Poly wrapped things up with a kill to win the set 25-15 and end the Aggies' Big West Tournament run.
UP NEXT: The Aggies will now await the results of the NCAA selection show on Sunday, Nov. 30, to see if they will make it to the dance for the first time in program history. The selection show will be live on ESPN at 3:00 p.m. PT.
