LAST WEEK
UC Davis clinched in a spot in the inaugural Big West Conference Tournament with today's four-set win over CSUN on Wednesday night inside the University Credit Union Center.
The Aggies have won back-to-back matches, improving to 13-12 overall (8-7 Big West).
"It's exciting to be a part of the first Big West Tournament," said Head Coach
Dan Conners. "I'm happy for the team and the players, it's good that they'll get to experience that. We're playing some pretty good volleyball and I'm excited to see what we can do down the stretch."
It was the most efficient night of the season for UC Davis, hitting a season-best .385 with just eight attack errors. The defense was astounding as well, holding CSUN to just .158.
UC Davis saw its Senior Day spoiled when Cal State Bakersfield grabbed a four-set victory (25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19) on Saturday afternoon.
800 CLUB
Olivia Utterback recently reached 800 kills for her career. She has been exceptional in her junior season, posting a team-high 302 kills and 2.90 kills-per set, ranking top-10 in the conference in both categories. Her 3.57 points-per-set is top-10 in the Big West but Utterback has also played a huge role in the defense, tallying 230 digs which is the second-most on the team.
EYES ON THE PRIZE
The Big West will feature a postseason conference tournament for the first time in the conference's history following the 2023 regular season. This brand-new championship event will reward the winner with the league's automatic big into the field of the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. The Aggies will hope to be playing their best volleyball Nov. 22-25 in Long Beach for the inaugural conference tournament.
