DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis is still searching for its first home win of the season as it suffered a defeat via the sweep to the Tritons of UC San Diego on Thursday night inside the University Credit Union Center.
"UC San Diego had a great game plan and executed well defensively," said Head Coach
Dan Conners. "We played from our heels most of the night and didn't do what it takes to play as a team."
The Aggies fall to 11-10 overall (6-5 Big West) in their third straight match that finished in just three sets. Thursday's opponents improve to 14-9 (6-5 Big West) and draw level with UC Davis in the Big West Conference standings.
It was a tough night for Davis' team, posting a season-low hitting percentage of .029 while committing 24 attack errors, their most in a three-set match this season. UC San Diego's Ava McInnes showed why she is one of the most feared hitters in the conference, slamming down a game-high 15 kills while hitting at a .419 clip.
Olivia Utterback paced the Aggies offensively with her nine kills on .217. Making a big impact defensively was
Julia Ng who racked up 18 digs to make it three straight games in double figures for the libero.
Both of UC Davis' setters reached double-digits in the assist column, with
Mia Starr and
Casi Newman handing out 12 apiece.
